Our Oath in Action

Our Oath in Action

Picture
The ALVMF support the American Veterinary Medical Foundation in its mission of helping veterinarians help animals.
Beginning in 2013, veterinarians have gathered at sites throughout the country to bring their skills and knowledge to bear on service projects that will engage and educate pet owners and animal lovers on a range of topics related to animal healthcare. Plan to join us for this annual event.
Our Oath in Action is a national program of the American Veterinary Medical Foundation, a 501c3 charitable organization. For more information on Our Oath in Action and other programs that embrace and advance the well-being and medical care of animals please visit AVMF.org.

An annual event - join us!

Ag Heritage Park
620-A S. Donahue Drive
Auburn University
Auburn, AL   36849

Join the fun at Auburn University’s Annual Fall Roundup as the veterinary profession puts Our Oath in Action! This fun event is held annually on homecoming weekend prior to the game, in conjunction with Ag Roundup, which has earned a reputation over the years as Auburn’s largest tailgate party.
Learn more about how to protect your pets when the unthinkable happens. Stop by to check out one of the Companion Animal Mobile Equipment Trailers (CAMET), owned by the ALVMA and ALVMF that provide supplies necessary to house up to 80 pets and can be deployed to an affected area. They are stocked with emergency supplies to care for pets after  disaster strikes. There will also be a live demonstration by Canine Performance Sciences detector dogs. There will be toys for the kids and lots of great giveaways, including information about keeping pets healthy year-round and the opportunity to join the AVMF in its mission to help veterinarians help animals.
Below are some quick tips for disaster planning for your pets:
  • ID your pet. Make sure your pet’s tags are up-to-date and securely fastened to your pet’s collar. If possible, attach the address and/or phone number of your evacuation site. Also consider microchipping your pets. If your pet is already microchipped, make sure it is up to date in the provider’s system.
  • Make sure you have a current photo of your pet for identification purposes.
  • Make a pet emergency kit.
Check out this quick list:
  •  Pet food
  •  Bottled water
  •  Medications
  •  Veterinary records
  •  Cat litter/pan
  •  Manual can opener
  •  Food dishes
  •  First aid kit and other supplies
  • Identify shelters. For public health reasons, many emergency shelters cannot accept pets. Find out which motels and hotels in the area you plan to evacuate to allow pets well in advance of needing them. Include your local animal shelter’s number in your list of emergency numbers.
  • Make sure you have a secure pet carrier, leash or harness for your pet so that if he panics, he can’t escape.
Ag Roundup has earned a reputation over the years as Auburn’s largest tailgate party. It is open to everyone and features a wide range of foods grown and/or produced in Alabama. In addition to the “Our Oath in Action” event, the Ag Roundup will offer informative displays and children’s activities. Admission is $5, children under 6 are free. It will be held on Ag Heritage Park’s south side, with the main entrance located at the Alabama Farmers Pavilion, 620-A S. Donahue Drive. The event will open four hours before the Auburn–Louisiana Monroe football game and wrap up an hour before kickoff.
